Once again the heroic Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. And like any sequel it had to be better then the last right? well... while I was at the edge of my seat at times at awe at the shear awesomeness, it didn't feel like it was any better then the first film. First it still suffers from shaky steady cams during the battle sequences, at times it seems like Michael Bay doesn't even know he's shooting a movie that heavily relies upon its CG characters. Why does it seem when there is major action going on that some of the Autobots remain in their vehicle modes? Remember the teaser trailer for the first one where it deals with that cheap Martian scene, and it only turns out that the footage was color corrected to be red? We were told that wasn't going to be in the first movie, and yet it was... like wise Michael Bay had reused, that's right REUSED some of the military sequences from the first film (i.e. the fly over scene of the global hawk UAV over some Middle East dessert).
On the bright side, we were introduced to a lot of new characters from both robot factions. The Autobots get Sideswipe a sword wielder who slices on unfortunate Decepticon right in half. Arcee, one of the few female transformers. She was originally going to be in the first movie as a pink Buell motorcycle but got written out of the script. She makes her appearance here as a pink, blue, and purple motorcycle but all transform into their own robot forms but apparently are all the same bot. Jolt, well he doesn't play a big role in the film and besides which he's just there to promote the new Chevy electric car. Mudflap and Skids, the comic relief of the new characters, two wise cracking twins that are always fighting one another and poking fun behind other people's back.
The Decepticons get a whole bunch load of new characters, we finally get to see the Constructicons form their infamous combiner Devastator. Also in the final battle scene, all the Constructicons have formed Devastator. But in the fight to chase after Sam and Mikaela we clearly see the Constructicons in their robot modes, Rampage, Scavenger, Longhaul and Mixmaster. And all this was going on while Devastator was destorying the pyramid. So unless there is another set of Constructicons, where did these guys come from? Soundwave is in this one, and Frank Welkner plays him, but for the fans of the G1 series, he doesn't speak in that cliché robotic fashion we all know that Soundwave sounds like, even the animated Soundwave sounded better.
Story: okay, but not great. It starts off with a bit of history that the transformers have been to earth long before. They were building some sort of device to destroy our sun so they could recharge the all spark and have energon, but they stopped construction of their device because they discovered sentient life on earth, early humans. And this was their rule not to destroy worlds that had life on them. But one of them thought it was stupid that their species needed that energy so he rebelled against his brothers and in the end they overpowered him and kept the key that activate the machine the Matrix of Leadership from him. Now with no all spark on Cybertron, their planet is dying and their hatchlings (baby transformers, I don't get why they don't call them protoforms, isn't that the real term?) and in order to save their race the Decepticons need to find that key to harvest the power of our sun. And only Sam knows where to find it. Its hidden inside a pyramid in Egypt. We all learn this from an old transformer named Jetfire who enlightens Sam and company on some history of the transformers here on earth.
The fight sequences were awesome. Optimus Prime as the great hero he is took Megatron, Starscream and Grindcor all one in a forest battle and ended up going offline because of it to save Sam's life. It's not until later he is revived by the Matrix of Leadership and having Jetfire willingly sacrificing himself to give Prime his special abilities that he comes back to finish what he started.
Once again Steve Jablonsky returns to compose the score for the film and I really loves Optimus Prime's theme song.
It was a long time waiting for this, but I am glad I finally got to see it, I agree that Megan Fox is overused, yes we get it, she's hot, but come on, we paid to see transforming robots beat the crap out of eachother. Let's have more of that! And yes the sexual humor bits were funny as immature as they were, its good to laugh once in a while, but try to add some intelligent humor.
Overall, I enjoyed it, it was great to see the new characters I just wish they had more screen time.

The derivative of sine is cosine. Just throwin that out there.
